Wheelchair in Munich

We at ergonomic care in Munich look back on many years of experience in the field of wheelchair fittings. In cooperation with our partner companies, the mobility and comfort of the patient is our top priority. Therefore, a detailed consultation regarding your suitable wheelchair is particularly important to us. We would like to clarify three important points in particular. Firstly, the question in which areas the wheelchair will be used, i.e. whether indoors, outdoors and for which distances and activities. Secondly, what are the requirements for the wheelchair and whether special accessories are necessary. And lastly, what adjustment options and dimensions should the wheelchair have. Whether lightweight wheelchair, active wheelchair or nursing wheelchair, together we will find the right model for you.

The wheelchair range at ergonomic care Munich

Depending on the requirements and area of application, different types of wheelchairs come into question. These are standard and lightweight wheelchairs, care wheelchairs or adaptive wheelchairs.

At ergonomic care you will find medical compression stockings in many different colors, shapes and compression classes.

Standard wheelchair and lightweight wheelchair

A standard wheelchair or lightweight wheelchair is usually not intended for permanent use due to its limited adjustment possibilities. Since lightweight wheelchairs are foldable and easily stowable, we often recommend them for transportation or for use in the home. The difference between standard and lightweight wheelchairs is only, as the name suggests, the material of the frame and thus the weight. Wheelchairs of this type available from us are made of aluminum as standard, and are therefore lightweight wheelchairs. If a lot of time is spent in a lightweight wheelchair, it is also important to choose a suitable seat cushion.

Active wheelchair and adaptive wheelchair

The active wheelchair, in contrast to the lightweight wheelchair, is very well suited for long-term use. One reason for this is that the wheelchair is individually adapted to the driver by many adjustable components, hence the name adaptive wheelchair. The goal of an active wheelchair is the maximum mobility of the driver in everyday life, sports and professional life. Thus, sports wheelchairs and children's wheelchairs also belong to this category. In addition to individual adaptation, an adaptive wheelchair offers the possibility of design and color as desired.

Nursing wheelchair

If special equipment or seating positions are required due to the patient's needs, a care wheelchair is used. Compared to a lightweight or active wheelchair, care wheelchairs are usually less maneuverable. On the other hand, they offer options specifically suited to nursing care, such as torso or head supports and individual adjustment of the seating position. In addition, the nursing wheelchair can also be equipped with a therapy table. This is why we often refer to this as a multifunctional wheelchair.

Frequently asked questions

In principle, the health insurance company will cover the cost of any type of wheelchair as long as it can "ensure the success of the medical treatment, prevent an impending disability or compensate for a disability" (SGB V §33). This means, therefore, that the wheelchair provision should be adapted to the needs of the patient, but not overprovide them.

In principle, everyone who is permanently or temporarily dependent on a wheelchair is entitled to one. The reasons for this can be, for example, an illness, an accident or an injury. All you need is a prescription from your doctor, which in the best case will state the special requirements of the wheelchair.

A wheelchair can be prescribed by your family doctor, as well as by special specialists such as neurologists or orthopedists.

The seat width of a wheelchair is directly related to the dimensions of the wheelchair user. This question often arises in connection with doorways, in this regard it can usually be said that a standard wheelchair is usually less than 70 cm in total width. If you now also consider the necessary free space for the hands when pushing the wheelchair, a door width of 90 cm is reasonable.

As with other aids, the same applies to wheelchairs: The prescription is valid for 30 days after the date of issue by the doctor. If your prescription has exceeded this period, please contact your doctor so that he can issue you a new one.

As a rule, you are entitled to a new wheelchair every five years. However, there are some exceptions that justify an earlier claim. For example, the user may outgrow the wheelchair, which is often the case with children, or the wheelchair is no longer adequate for the individual needs due to a progressive disease.

If you buy your wheelchair privately, it is of course yours. More common, however, is a doctor's prescription for a wheelchair and a subsequent assumption of costs by the health insurance company. In this case, the wheelchair is the property of the health insurance company and therefore to be treated as a loan.

At our medical supply store ergonomic care you also have the possibility to rent wheelchairs on a daily basis. If you need a wheelchair due to repairs on your own wheelchair or for other short-term reasons, you are welcome to come to our branch at Sendlinger Tor and ask for a rental wheelchair.
